How to Study From YouTube Videos

Turn a video's transcript into notes you can actually study from, and a quiz to check what stuck.

What Study Mode generates

Study Mode builds three things from a video's transcript: a set of key concepts with short explanations, organized study notes using the video's own structure and terms, and a five-question quiz — three multiple-choice and two short-answer — with the correct answers already included.

Everything is grounded strictly in the transcript. Nothing is pulled from outside knowledge about the topic, and if a video genuinely doesn't have enough substantive content to build a meaningful study guide from, ClearScript says so rather than inventing one.

How to study from a YouTube video

  1. 1

    Get the transcript

Paste a public YouTube link into the input on the ClearScript homepage. See how to get a YouTube transcript for the full walkthrough.

  2. 2

    Open the Study tab

It sits alongside Transcript, Summary, Ask this video, and Translate in the result section.

  3. 3

    Click "Create study guide"

Study Mode only generates on click, not automatically when you open the tab.

  4. 4

Work through concepts, notes, and the quiz

All three sections load together, generated from the same pass over the transcript.

Taking the quiz

The quiz is interactive and doesn't need another request to check your work — the correct answers are already part of the generated guide. For multiple-choice questions, pick an option and ClearScript immediately shows whether it's correct, along with a short explanation. For short-answer questions, try answering in your head first, then click "Show answer" to check yourself.

When Study Mode is useful

  • Reviewing a lecture, course video, or tutorial before a test or exam
  • Turning a long explainer video into notes without transcribing it yourself
  • Checking your understanding of a video with a quick, low-stakes quiz
  • Studying from a video that doesn't come with its own notes or slides

Not every video is a lesson

Study Mode adapts to whatever the video actually is rather than forcing an academic framing onto content that isn't academic — a tutorial gets concepts and steps, a more conversational video gets notes built around what was actually discussed. If a video is too short or too thin on content to study from meaningfully, Study Mode says so instead of making something up.

For a shorter video that doesn't need the full treatment, a plain summary may be enough.
